What is DDP?
The Decentralized Dance Party (DDP) is a portable, battery-powered Party System. It consists of hundreds of Party people, carrying boomboxes, and a DJ who wears a backpack, containing an FM transmitter. All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJ’s master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system!

This Portable Dance Party roams the night, generating complete awesomeness, street by street and block by block, onto buses and subways, into public fountains and beyond. Inevitably interfacing with the public, together we create an infectious epidemic of fun. A Roaming Party Adventure that lasts all night long!

More than a Party, the DDP has proven to be a very interesting social experiment; clearly demonstrating that thousands of people of all ages, cultures and social groups can come together to celebrate life and get crazy in our public spaces without causing any trouble. That is why the DDP is also known as “The Party Revolution”. It is a unique force that has the power to unify and inspire people in ways never before imagined.

Tyler Ramsey of Band of Horses recently performed an acoustic set at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh’s South Side. The tour is in support of his recent album, The Valley Wind. Geekstar.com was in attendance and took some stills along with a video of Ramsey performing his single, The Valley Wind.

Ramsey is perhaps most immediately recognizable as the tall, lean guitarist in Band Of Horses, having played with them since 2007, starting before the release of their breakthrough album, Cease To Begin. A well-established and praised guitar player and singer in the burgeoning music scene of Asheville, NC where he calls home, he first learned to play music on piano before moving to the guitar. Ramsey grew up listening to and studying country-blues guitar players like Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi John Hurt, and American finger pickers like John Fahey and Leo Kottke, absorbing their sound and making it all his own.

Ramsey released his self-titled debut in 2004 and followed it in 2008 with A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea (Echo Mountain Records), which was praised by NPR(World Café – “Heartwarming, delicate, and comforting”), Stereogum (‘Artist To Watch’),WNYC’s Soundcheck, and Popmatters, among others.  That album – a collection of haunting and atmospheric songs that exude a markedly fluid, easy grace – was re-released by Brown Records/Fat Possum in January 2011.

Tyler Ramsey is perhaps most immediately recognizable as the tall, lean guitarist in Band Of Horses, having played with them since 2007, starting before the release of their breakthrough album, Cease To Begin. A well-established and praised guitar player and singer in the burgeoning music scene of Asheville, NC where he calls home, he first learned to play music on piano before moving to the guitar.

After steadily writing while both on and off the road over the course of last year, Ramsey headed to Nashville, TN, to record his third album The Valley Wind at Alex The Great studio in early January.  Friend and bandmate Bill Reynolds (who’s worked with The Avett Brothers and Lissie) produced and aided on bass, while friend Seth Kauffman (Floating Action) sat in on drums and guitar, also singing background vocals.

Over a rare snowy set of six days in the southern city, Ramsey crafted nine, finely spun songs, keeping the focus on performance as they were played, and letting fresh ideas reveal themselves as they would.  The sessions were intense; the three musicians separated and insulated from most normal daily goings-on during the recording period. The result: a crystalline yet warm album, filled with Ramsey’s rich, plaintive vocals and expressive, intricate guitar playing.

Experience Tyler’s music this coming Thursday at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh’s South Side.

Art All Night is a grassroots event staged by an all-volunteer crew. A joyful celebration of the arts and community, the show grows in popularity each year, bringing thousands of people from all over the region into Lawrenceville.

In 2010 Art All Night Lawrenceville featured work by 1189 artists and was attended by over 12,000 guests.

DJ/Video Installation Schedule
Video will run from dark until early Sunday morning. Submissions from Art All Night artists will be presented in an “installation” format until the DJ’s start, and then mixed as performance art to the music. The DJ/Video environment offers an alternative space to enjoy the all night event, visitors can view the installation from inside or outside the Iron City Brewery.

Brooklyn’s Low Water is celebrating the release of their new CD The Taste You Know and Enjoy with a show at Brillobox on Friday, March 11th with The Harlan Twins and Nik and The Central Plains.

Known for their collaborations with other local artists, Low Water recently worked with painter Millar Kelley to produce a video for the song “Me & St. Hubert” from the new record. Millar is known for her wildlife portraits, and this seemed like a natural fit for a song about the patron saint of hunters.

The band has found success blending intensely personal lyrics with a direct, non-polished sound that is rooted in equal parts pop and indie, with the sincerity of old-time country or a stack of Stax 45′s.

Experience a Saturday evening filled with music, film and art highlighted by atmospheric lighting from one of Pittsburgh’s most unique photographers, Jae Roberto.

Flight School Fellow, Julie Sokolow, will open the evening with a daring and psychological mini-documentary video of local character, Christopher Ammons.

Robin Vote will play an extended set featuring many songs from their new thirteen song CD, invest in loss. Robin Vote has rocked Pittsburgh for the past three years in various configurations such as Dead Bird and Colin and the Shots. They have settled into a charmingly kinetic folk rock arrangement with classical adornments of the violin and piano. The band is fronted by Colin Baxter who is also known for playing with Anita Fix and performing as David Bowie at Brillobox.

Local video artists will be documenting this dynamic and theatrical performance which will later be transformed into a music video. Set design to be created by Robin Vote and various local Pittsburgh artists.

Rick Kolling will perform Cepillin’ on his accordion between acts. Anticipate a few spontaneous performances by local celebrities! There may possibly be a third act as well.

Welcome back to the comedic pleasure of watching Jack Byrnes (Academy Award^® winner ROBERT DE NIRO) and Greg Focker (BEN STILLER) go head-to-head in Little Fockers.

Joining De Niro and Stiller in the comedy is the returning all-star cast of OWEN WILSON, TERI POLO, BLYTHE DANNER and Academy Award^® winners DUSTIN HOFFMAN and BARBRA STREISAND.  For the latest chapter of the worldwide hit franchise, they are joined by JESSICA ALBA, LAURA DERN and HARVEY KEITEL.

It all began in 2000 with the comic frustrations of male nurse Greg Focker as he tried to impress his girlfriend’s parents but ended up at odds with the formidable family patriarch, Jack Byrnes.  Audiences across the globe responded to the pointed comedy and touching moments that reflected everyday challenges with family.

Lightning struck again when, in 2004, Greg introduced his unconventional parents to his WASP-y future in-laws and tried to manage a combustible situation without being removed from Jack’s circle of trust.  The franchise exploded as moviegoers couldn’t get enough of Jack, Greg and both of their nutty clans.  In fact, Meet the Fockers became the highest-grossing comedy in Universal Pictures’ history and ranks second only to Home Alone as the most successful live-action comedy ever at the domestic box office.

Now it’s time to meet the little Fockers—Samantha (DAISY TAHAN of television’s Nurse Jackie) and Henry (COLIN BAIOCCHI of Couples Retreat)—as the film delves into the trials and tribulations of the growing family, a natural progression for the series built on the time-honored rituals of dating, marriage and children.

It has taken 10 years, two little Fockers with wife Pam (Polo) and countless hurdles for Greg to finally get “in” with his tightly wound father-in-law, Jack.  However, after the cash-strapped dad takes a job moonlighting for a drug company with a sexy co-worker, Jack’s suspicions come roaring back.

It couldn’t be a worse time for Greg, who is simultaneously juggling the demands of impressing the headmistress (Dern) of a prestigious private school for the twins and finessing his shady general contractor (Keitel)—whose repeated renovation delays on their dream home threaten to derail the kids’ birthday party—all while fending off the advances of the drop-dead gorgeous pharmaceutical rep (Alba) with whom Greg works.

As the Focker-Byrnes clan—Greg’s parents, Bernie (Hoffman) and Roz (Streisand), Jack and Dina (Danner)—and Pam’s lovelorn ex, Kevin (Wilson), descend for the birthday bash, Greg must prove to the skeptical Jack that he’s fully capable as the man of the house and designated Godfocker of the clan.  But with all the misunderstandings, spying and covert missions, will Greg pass Jack’s final test and become the family’s next patriarch…or will the circle of trust be broken for good?
