Jesus Fever is Falling All Over You

I recently had the pleasure of seeing Kurt Vile perform live at the Warhol Museum in downtown Pittsburgh. The Warhol Museum is my absolute favorite museum…anywhere. I’m a huge fan of modern art and I love using my museum pass to see each new exhibit that comes to the museum from Shephard Fairey to Marcel Duchamp (!!!!).

I had been wanting to catch a concert at the museum ever since I became familiar with the museum’s Sound Series. I couldn’t believe that Kurt Vile and the Violators were going to play a show at the Warhol, so I bought tix immediately. I’m a huge fan of Kurt’s low-fi indie folk rock. Vile is currently opening for J Mascis on tour (yes, the J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.).

Anyways, I fortunately lucked out with second row seats at the show and also happened to have my flip-mino video recorder with me. Here is Kurt Vile performing “Jesus Fever” at the Warhol Museum on March 29, 2011.

Random factoid: Kurt Vile is actually Kurt Vile’s legit birth name. That is so rockstar.

View the entire Kurt Vile and the Violators’ show at the Warhol Museum here.

Time: Doors open at 8 PM; Show starts at 8:30 PM
Price: $5 (All Ages and BYOB)

Robin Vote

Accordion performance by Rick Kolling of Lungs, Face, Feet

Experience a Saturday evening filled with music, film and art highlighted by atmospheric lighting from one of Pittsburgh’s most unique photographers, Jae Roberto.

Flight School Fellow, Julie Sokolow, will open the evening with a daring and psychological mini-documentary video of local character, Christopher Ammons.

Robin Vote will play an extended set featuring many songs from their new thirteen song CD, invest in loss. Robin Vote has rocked Pittsburgh for the past three years in various configurations such as Dead Bird and Colin and the Shots. They have settled into a charmingly kinetic folk rock arrangement with classical adornments of the violin and piano. The band is fronted by Colin Baxter who is also known for playing with Anita Fix and performing as David Bowie at Brillobox.

Local video artists will be documenting this dynamic and theatrical performance which will later be transformed into a music video. Set design to be created by Robin Vote and various local Pittsburgh artists.

Rick Kolling will perform Cepillin’ on his accordion between acts. Anticipate a few spontaneous performances by local celebrities! There may possibly be a third act as well.
