A Halloween benefit featuring DJs, games, and prizes. Costumes are suggested.

Unsmoke Systems is a gallery/artist work space in Braddock. This huge building is perfect for large parties and gallery shows. Geekstar attended one of Unsmoke Systems’ last events, and it was packed out. People were arriving all night and it was a LOT of fun. The artists in residents are from all over the country and are very talented. They create work in a variety of different mediums.

The night will feature DJing by Lauren G. and Nikkles of Hoof & Beek, and performances by Brain Jamage (aka Barkley Bronson and Manson) and John Raymond of the Strange Cocktail.

Halloween-themed trappings, created by the resident UnSmoke artists, will transform the gallery space for the evening.

Unsmoke is bringing back the kitschy Halloween games of childhood – including bobbling for apples (and bananas!) – with prizes for the winners.

Join Geek Night Pittsburgh for the sixty-first iteration of the Pittsburgh Geek Night on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Drink beer. Trade stupid user stories. Enjoy the soothing chirp of a room full of pagers.

Geek Night is held on the first Thursday of every other month. (June 7, August 2, October 4, and so on.) There’s no dress code and no cover charge.

Guest band, the Bloodsugars, play this Saturday night at Brillobox. The Bloodsugars hail from Brooklyn NY and are bringing a unique blend of indie dance rock to the burgh. Also on the bill are Pittsburgh bands Good Night States and Round Black Ghosts. Philadelphia band Grammar Debate will also be performing.

The Bloodsugars recently released their latest EP titled BQEP. This six song EP consists of catchy indie rock songs mixed with the clean vocals of singer Jason Rabinowitz. The Bloodsugars stand apart from other “indie dance rock” bands with their intelligent songwriting and arrangements. Anyone who has ever played an instrument can immediately pick up on the tremendous technical aptitude showcased by all four members. The Brillbox is located in Bloomfield across the street from the new Children’s Hospital on Penn Avenue. Brillobox is where to go to hear local and national indie rock bands in Pittsburgh. The scene is filled with hipsters, great music, strong drinks, and flocked velvet wallpaper. Geekstar’s suggestion is to arrive early and have dinner at the neighboring Taste of India restaurant. Next, grab a Straub and enjoy the show at Brillobox.

This past Sunday night, Liquid Sundays hosted their first ever fashion edition featuring fashion shows with clothing and accessories provided by Pavement and Sugar, boutiques located in Lawrenceville. The event was held at downtown Pittsburgh’s Olive or Twist, one of my favorite martini bars.

It has made national news. Gnomes are causing more trouble….and this time in Pittsburgh!

I think it is a conspiracy. What do you think? I have not been able to find an update on the Argentinian Gnome. Does anybody know what happened?
