Last Saturday night, local fashion design company, People’s Cartel, sponsored Decade, an art and fashion event at the Double Wide Grill in Pittsburgh’s South Side. People’s Cartel designs and sells trendy T-shirts which come in a variety of neon colors (love it!).

The event was packed with concert goers and wannabe fashionistas. Decade featured local bands Life in Bed, Wizdom Band (reggae), and Landline. Geekstar was able to catch Landline and Life in Bed’s sets which sounded great. Pittsburgh has a fantastic local music scene and bands such as these are part of the reason.

The People’s Cartel fashion show consisted of American Apparel-esque models dancing on a lime green shag rug stage next to the band’s stage. The models threw People’s Cartel T-shirts out into the crowd and Geekstar happened to catch one. Click here to view the Decade event T-shirt.

Unsmoke Systems is a gallery/artist work space in Braddock. This huge building is perfect for large parties and gallery shows. Geekstar attended one of Unsmoke Systems’ last events, and it was packed out. People were arriving all night and it was a LOT of fun. The artists in residents are from all over the country and are very talented. They create work in a variety of different mediums.

The night will feature DJing by Lauren G. and Nikkles of Hoof & Beek, and performances by Brain Jamage (aka Barkley Bronson and Manson) and John Raymond of the Strange Cocktail.

Halloween-themed trappings, created by the resident UnSmoke artists, will transform the gallery space for the evening.

Unsmoke is bringing back the kitschy Halloween games of childhood – including bobbling for apples (and bananas!) – with prizes for the winners.

The Pittsburgh Gallery Crawl is a free quarterly event featuring art, music, and entertainment in Pittsburgh’s cultural district. Various galleries and venues open their doors to to the public during this event.

I have attended past gallery crawls. It is an excellent time to experience local and national/international art along with local bands and DJs. I have been looking forward to the next gallery crawl since this past summer’s. I love art. I love music. I love meeting new people. The gallery crawl has it all.

I think these are fantastic. The Chocolate Bar in NYC commissioned 10 NYC graffiti artists to design candy wrappers for their gourmet chocolate bars. What more could a stylish girl want?
